The Thalle La Pass Trek is one of the shortest and most accessible high-altitude treks in Gilgit-Baltistan, ideal for travelers seeking adventure without extreme difficulty. It combines scenic beauty, gentle climbs, and historic mountain trails.
The route connects Khaplu and Shigar Valley, following the lush Thalle Lungma Valley before crossing the Thalle La Pass (4,572 m). Starting near the Shyok River, about 15 km west of Khaplu, the trail gradually ascends through green pastures and alpine landscapes.
In the upper valley, the trail splits into two routes. The northern branch leads to the challenging Tusserpo La (5,084 m), while the southern branch crosses the easier and more popular Thalle La Pass. Both routes descend into Bauma Lungma, leading toward Shigar.
Used historically between 1891 and 1947, the route was favored for its rich grazing grounds. Today, it remains a quiet and less-traveled trek, offering stunning views, cultural depth, and a timeless mountain experience.
